Extern Opportunities at Ocean County Veterinary Hospital

Dear Prospective Extern:

Thank you for your interest in the Student Externship Program at Ocean County Veterinary Hospital and its affiliated practices. This externship program is limited to enrolled university students only.

Ocean County Veterinary Hospital (OCVH) is a busy 12-doctor practice with a professional staff of approximately 40 employees. Our AAHA accredited hospital is located in Lakewood, NJ, just 15 minutes from the beaches of the Jersey Shore with easy access to a multitude of outdoor activities, parks and shopping malls. New York City and Philadelphia are about an hour away. In addition to our main Lakewood location we have three satellite hospitals, New Prospect Veterinary Hospital (NPVH) in Jackson, NJ, Bridge Veterinary Hospital (BVH) in Point Pleasant, NJ and Fischer Veterinary, Hospital (FVH) in Toms River, NJ.

Our Lakewood location is about to celebrate its 25th anniversary but has experienced many changes and improvements over the years. Our modern and clean facility is over 11,000 square feet and is very well-equipped. Our doctors share special interests which include: internal medicine, dermatology, dentistry, general surgery, laparoscopic surgery, ultrasonography and exotic pets.

As an extern you will be expected to work a 40-hour week, the specific days and hours will be determined by the doctors’ schedules and the hospital’s needs . Our externs are exposed to great learning opportunities and will gain experience from the exam room to the surgery suite and everything in between.

For students in need of housing, we have modest accommodations that include a bedroom, a bathroom, refrigerator, and microwave on the premises of OCVH.

This is an outstanding opportunity for you to gain extensive practical clinical experience in companion animal medicine and surgery. Please read the eligibility requirements for admission into our externship program at OCVH. Complete the corresponding application for your externship eligibility.

After receiving your application we will contact you within two weeks to let you know if we can accommodate your request. At that time we will also provide instructions for document submission, a personal interview (that can be conducted via phone or Skype) and the drug and background checks, which are required prior to the start of the externship.

Please take the time to view our website in depth. If you have any questions please contact Nina Baldasare. The telephone number is (732) 363-7202 and the e-mail is extern@ocvh.com.
